Wesley Academy - "A Christian Preschool"
Wesley Academy is a 5 day a week
½ day program to provide meaningful learning experiences which
take into consideration the individual needs, interests, handicaps and abilities
of each child; and that will help build important foundations for future
reading, writing, reasoning, math and other academic skills for the child and to
provide learning experiences which will help to develop the moral and spiritual
character of the child.
For the past five years,
Wesley Academy and the Gulfport School District Special Education Dept. have a
wonderful relationship. This relationship continues under the direction of MS.
Amy Lynch who is the lead Speech and Language Pathologist for the Gulfport
School District.
Through the efforts of Ms. Lynch and her staff of five, we have the capacity to
teach children with a variety of disabilities. Each of the children are screened
in the areas of vision, hearing, speech, motor skills, social behavior,
communication and academic skills.
After a thorough review of each child's needs, the Special Ed people schedule
learning activities for all our students as well as special individualized
therapy for the children who need it.
The combination of the talent and faithfulness of our own preschool teachers
along with the abilities of Ms. Lynch and her Special Ed staff make for the best
preschool program in the area.
Extended Program:
The extended program
at Wesley Academy is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday each week.
The children bring a snack lunch and
take a 1 hr. nap or quiet time. After nap time (12 Noon - 1 p.m.) the children
are engaged in a variety of activities including singing, science, Spanish as
well as math and English skills.
